EnrofloxacinEnrofloxacin, also known as Baytril, is an antibiotic most often used in saltwater systems, but can be used in freshwater as well. Many fish will process this medication into ciprofloxacin, but not all. Used to treat Aeromonas, Streptococcus, Flavobacterium columnare, Vibrio and other bacteria that can make ornamental fish ill. Treatment: In the water column, preferably in a QT tank, add 9.5 - 19 mg per gallon (2.5 - 5 mg per liter). Make sure activated carbon, UV light and any other compounds meant to clean the water are removed. Filter floss and sponges are fine so long as you don't mind risking the beneficial bacteria. Leave in the water for up to 5 days so long as the fish are tolerating it well. In food, mix with foods at a rate of 0.1% enrofloxacin per weight of food. For example, per pound of food 15 mg per ounce food. Store prepared food in a cool location or in the refrigerator between feedings. |
